Best (free) Ubuntu tutorial, preferably online?

I downloaded the latest build, I’m a total newbie when it comes to Linux, what is the best free tutorial out there to make me comfortable with operating the OS? By operating I mean; installing software, using all of its features, etc. I’m a Windows user.

    To be completely honest with you… the best way is to just play around with it… Don’t download and save a lot of file… Expect to really mess up your system at some point, and re-install the OS agian… By that time you’ll have a handle on what is going on…

    To add programs, use the program manager under the System folder… It slips my mind right now what ubuntu calls their installer, but you’ll see it under system.

    You will be able to install firefox from that menu… it would be a good learning experience to give it a try… Just open up the package manager and “Update” to get all the packages, then you can do a search for FIREFOX, check the box, and tell it to install… It will install firefox, as well as any packages that are required for firefox to run… That is one thing that is different than in windows… Windows installer programs almost always contain the required “sub components” or “prerequisite” programs needed. In linux, certain programs “assume” that those prerequisite packages are already installed… What a “package manager” does in a linux distribution is keep track of what prerequisite’s each program has, and it will automatically select and install those packages along with the program you are installing, making it quite automatic in most instances.

    Here you go Ivan. I’ll give you a few links. (Little lengthy! lol!) Be prepared for a new world that you never knew existed with Ubuntu Linux. I do not have direct knowledge of the new ‘Hardy Herron’ Ubuntu distro yet. I do know that ANY OS when it comes out, is likely to have a few ‘bugs’ in it. What makes me comfortable, is knowing 1000’s of professional programmers around the world, would snap right on the ‘bug’, and have it fixed in a New York minute! lol! Just think. These kind people do it because they want to, not because they have to. They aren’t paid for this! {Pretty cool, huh?}
